Largest WW school yet -> Thanks to all who participated

Our membership has grown significantly during the last year, we are now a diverse group of WW Canoeists, Touring Canoeists, WW Kayakers and Sea Kayakers.

All members are challenged to get involved in leading trips and participating other activities. The membership thanked Dennis Belliveau for his efforts during his tenure as Co-Chairman

Committee Reports:

- Interchapter report: (The report was published in the recent WrapAround.)

- Conservation: Tom Todd in absence of Tom Quarrels

Dam relicensing on the Kennebec eliminates fees. A dam was removed on the Lower Souhegan. The are working on removing a dam on the Contoocook just upstream of Henniker.

- Equipment: Ruth Kelsea. Absent, no report given.

- Leadership: Tom Gelinas. Absent, no report given.

- Ratings: Bruce Healey. This is our largest meeting in 18 years. We now have more than 700 members. We have been working on updating records to reflect current skill levels. We are discussing but not ready to add a Sea Kayak rating. Sea Kayak trips will be rated from 1 to 6 based on length, exposure and expected currents. The Sea Kayak rating will be similar to systems used by other clubs. Jim Lewis has given Bruce a draft to review. The draft will be posted on the web for the chapter to review.

- Rescue school: Paul Berry. Rescue school held. The Boston chapter offers a rescue and recovery school for those interested in recovery.

- Touring: Mike Jacobs. Season went great. Roiloi has prepared an overview of touring.

- Trip Reports: Laura Morgan. Reports in many formats have been received. Laura is working on a new standard format that will make the job of compiling the results easier.

- Webmaster: Phil Sego. Our home page has grown from receiving over 4,000 visits during a year to 4,000 visits a month. On the average, viewers see between 2 and 4 pages. A survey of preferred Wrap Around file formats was taken. The results are: Word 10, PDF 10, Standard 12+ and None 3. For next year, we are going to consider a ride board to assist in arranging carpools. A poll was taken and 75% of the people present would use the ride board.

- Membership: Tom Todd 60% of our members are from NH, 25% from MA, 5 % from VT and 4 % from ME. Members lists have been brought to the meeting and given to leaders. These lists need to be protected.

The roster grew from 221 on Nov 2, 2000 to 734 on Nov. 2, 2001. We had 377 join in 2001 compared to 133 joining in 2000, 77 in 1999, and 27 in 1998. 444 (60%) live in NH, 185 (25%) live in MA, 37 (5%) live in VT, and 28 (3.8%) in ME 94% live in NH and contiguous states.

No members have been removed from the roster unless they have asked to be removed. Members are flagged as active in the list if they have told us the want to be on the list within the last year. There are 144 inactive members on the list, and 590 active members on the list. 534 active members have email, 56 active members do not. We only post the WrapAround to active members who have requested us to post the WrapAround. Currently we post the WrapAround to 165 members. (About 20 issues are mailed as courtesy copies to other chapters and AMC officers. If inactive members were included 284 would want US Mail.)

282 Members have joined via the web site membership form of which 12 asked to have the WrapAround mailed by US Mail (Several of whom agreed later to take the WrapAround via email.) About 50 more joined via requesting to be on the email list.

We have 513 members on the email list (some are at the same email address). 39 members have been on the email list, but then unsubscibed because of spam or junk emails. An additional 10 have bouncing email addresses.

- WrapAround: Tom Todd. Given our club's use of the web, the role of the WrapAround may change. The WrapAround was published 4 times this year, in Jan., Feb., April, and October. Mailed circulation grew from 105 copies in January to 182 copies in October with a lot of the growth due to the school. The total cost for the WrapAround was $860.37.

Tom thanked the 30 authors who contributed material to the WrapAround including Tom Bacon, Dennis Belliveau, Paul Berry, Bob Burnett, Chris Coffin, Garry Crane, Rod Dore, Jerry Hawkins, Bruce Healey, Jerry Homer, Julie Isbill, Faith Knapp, Karl Koch, Jeff Lamping, Jim Lewis, Bill Lowman, David Moore, David Niels, Tom Quarles, Becka Roolf, Mike Sabin, Tom & Diane Sawyer, Phil Sego, Roioli Schweiker, Carl Shepardson, Julia Steed-Mawson, Tom Todd, and Bruce Wrigley.

The email list is now the major communications method to our members. The Tuesday notices have been wildly successful and enthusiastically received. There have been 174 messages on the email list. 42 bootleg trips and 3 skills sessions were announced via the email list.

- Scheduling: Julia Scheduling will be done after break and the results will appear in the WrapAround.

- Whitewater School: Rod Dore There were 37 students (21 OC2, 7 OC1, and 9 Kayak). Skip will become more involved in the school next year. Skip handed out sign up sheets for the school which will be held on the weekend of 4/6.

- Sea Kayak: Jim Lewis. We had 32 kayaks on our first trip. We have progressed up to offering level 4 trips (20 miles with a 3 mile crossing). We need to list Sea Kayak ratings on the membership list and need to develop more leaders. Jim Lewis will be leaving for Alaska and was thanked for his work with developing our sea kayak program.
