Donation Request

With our growth in the past year, our rental fleet needs to expand and WrapAround expenses are up. Please consider making a donation to NH AMC Paddlers. See the form on the back page. As we expand into Sea Kayaking we should get some additional Sea Kayaks. We rent boats very inexpensively ($10/day, $20/day for sea kayaks) Commercial rentals are 3 times more expensive. We also need to expand our Whitewater kayak and general canoe fleets. Please Consider a donation for tax purposes (or rental coupons) which will give us capital to buy these boats.

The WrapAround In Print!!!

Welcome to your copy of the WrapAround in print!!

We want to thank the majority of you who save us many dollars and much work by reading the WrapAround On-line or printing it off our web site. It is one of the reasons we are able to continue as group without dues.

This issue is being posted to all members for the following reasons:

  • We thought you'd appreciate having the Spring Schedule in printed form.
  • We have a listing of the Schools and Workshops for you
  • We have the new Ratings Requirements documented. All paddlers and leader should be familiar with these procedures.
  • We have the new Reference Page with the Chairs' contact information, river phones, useful web sites, and boat rental information.
  • We wanted to give you the opportunity to help keep us as the only dues less and fee less paddling group in the area, by helping us with a Donation.
  • We wanted to tell you about the New Hampshire Rivers Council and urge you to join. (The NH Rivers Council is subsidizing this mailing. We do not give out or sell our mailing list even to a great cause as this one.)
  • We want tell you about the new programs and clinics that we are developing.
  • We want to encourage you to come out and paddle!!!

Please Help - Keep Us Free

We are the only area paddling group that doesn't charge dues or a fee for coming on our trips. We are FREE. Please seriously consider giving us a donation to help with our expenses. We would like money to:

  • Buy additional boats for small our rental fleet
  • Help us expand our rental fleet into Sea Kayaks
  • Buy equipment to outfit our two new Sea kayaks
  • Pay for printing and mailing additional copies of the WrapAround to members not on the internet.(This issue cost about $1+postage/copy)
  • Pay for our expanded web site
  • Pay for the repair of our rental fleet

We do try to keep our expenses down while at the same time trying to provide evermore opportunities for our membership With the large growth in membership our rental fleet is way too small for our needs.

We have had tremendous growth over the past two years as our web site attracts new paddlers and the word is passed about what a friendly bunch of paddlers we are. This is putting a strain on our ability to serve our membership. Growth is only good if it leads to more opportunities for our paddlers and helps us meet other enthusiastic paddlers.

NH Rivers Council

The New Hampshire Rivers council is New Hampshire's only state wide river organization advocating the protection and access of the states rivers. The council serves as a coordinator and facilitator of the many river and watershed organizations which work to protect individual rivers. The Rivers Council was the moving force behind the creation of New Hampshire's Rivers Management and Protection Act.

The Council also is involved in the effort to identify and remove abandoned dams that block paddlers' and fish passage. The McGoldrick Dam on the lower Ashuelot was removed in July. Other dams for consideration are the Dam on the Bearcamp River below the gorge on which Skip ripped apart his boat and the dam above town on the Contoocook River.

Please seriously consider joining. (You can use their enclosed envelope.)

20th Annual
Run of the Charles Canoe & Kayak Race
Sunday, April 28, 2002

By Tom Todd

This year is the 20th annual run of the Charles Canoe and Kayak Races. This is organized by the Charles River Watershed Association and has numerous races including 6 mile relay races, 9 mile kayak relay races, 9 miles individual and tandem races, 19 mile races, 24 mile relay races and a professional flatwater canoe marathon.

Several of our members have had a great time in these races. I've enjoyed participating in the 24 miles relay races with several teams from the company with whom I worked. It would be wonderful if we entered a team or two from NH AMC Paddlers in the races. (As this is a fund raiser for CRWA, there will be entry fees that the participants would have to pay.) If anyone is interested in coordinating our participation in these races, please contact me at ttodd at ziplink.net. For more information check out the www.crwa.org web site.
