We hope you enjoy this issue that is packed with information for the
upcoming paddling year. Please keep this issue handy as it contains our
trip schedule and description of the scheduled schools and workshops.
This issue also has the new ratings procedures, the 2002 dam release
schedules, and an important article about exotic invasives that are
threatening our waters. We need to be careful that we don't contribute to
that threat.
Happy New Year!

2001 into 2002 for the NH AMC Paddlers is obviously bringing additions
to our club. New members for all our groups are probably the most
significant change to our club.
On our last scheduled trip on the Piscataquog we had over 25 boats, and
the trips on the Farmington and West were just as large in September and
October. The fall foliage trip on the Contoocook that Bruce Healey and
Judy Gannon put together had over 55 paddlers.
The new chair for family paddling and the addition of trips for the
family increases the opportunities for our members with families to be
together on the river. Our sea kayaking group that Jim Lewis started 2
years ago has grown from only 5 or 10 interested people to over 100.
I am definitely looking forward myself to renting the new sea kayak
that was procured for us through the efforts of Phil Sego in obtaining the
sea kayak as a donation to our club. In addition to the new sea kayak our
club also purchased a white water kayak giving us two white water kayaks.
We have plans to add another sea kayak and a solo boat to our equipment
for rental.
The sign up to be trip leaders at our annual meeting had an excellent
mix of Touring, Class II/III, Class IV, and Sea Kayaking. In the 4 years
that I have been with the club the number of casual bootleg trips, 4 to 5
day camping/paddling trips, and major excursions to Canada, Alaska, Rio
Grande and to the Grand Canyon have really opened up wonderful
opportunities in paddling for our members.
For 2002, I hope all us paddle safely and assist others in need of
rescue.
